The Stuff: RCP Scary, Pregnancy As Punishment, Hipster Race Analysis

WORKING CLASS HIPSTER- "I GREW UP WORKING CLASS, SO RACIAL OPPRESSION RLY ISN'T AN ISSUE FOR ME"

  • Wow. The RCP is fucken lame. And kinda scary. Just thoughtcha should know.
    • An excellent post at Pandagon regarding the true effects of HHS Secretary Sebilius’ historic and unprecedented veto of the FDA’s approval of making Plan B available over the counter and available without prescription to teen girls, effectively leveraging forced teenage pregnancy as a lifelong punishment preventative measure for sexual activity. And I am horrified when I read comments by parents on the internet saying that they will actively support the sabotage of their child’s future by denying them access to birth control. I am just floored at this thinking. Please, please do not ruin your own child’s life by denying them birth control. And creating a new life as a form of punishment for your kids being sexually active? Just, wow. And yes, I actually read comments giving many versions of that argument. And that’s what it boils down to: pregnancy as punishment. I feel sick now…
    • It’s too bad gay people are forcing heterosexual spouses into adultery. The nerve!
    • An incredible and beautiful encounter with some of the non-human primates we are lucky to share the planet with:

The Stuff: Abortion Games, Pentagon Claims, and um yeah…Ayn Rand Was Fucking Weird

    Free Bradley Manning!

    • This ridiculous anti-abortion campaign is an insult to every living person on Earth. Awww, poor wittle Johnny is giving up video games until women cease to need abortions, so let’s all deny women sovereignty over their bodies and let women who need lifesaving emergency abortions die—that way Johnny can get back to playing Call of Duty. *puke* (Full disclosure: I love video games.)
    • Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) attempts to vanquish socially unpopular breeds of dog. But now, there’s dog disguise kits to remedy these puppy-eugenics measures. (Hat-tip to theagitator.com, authored by Radley Balko.)
    • This interview with acclaimed anthropologist David Graeber is an intriguing and informative read, I recommend reading it through. It covers many subjects, including the nature of debt and what direct action means. Here’s an excerpt:

Q: Your latest book is called Debt. One of the arguments you make is that the reason the idea of debt has so much power is because no one has any idea what it actually is. Did you get any closer to understanding what debt is?
A: Yes. Debt is the perversion of a promise, a promise that has been perverted through mathematics and violence. I’m not saying mathematics is bad, but the combination of mathematics and violence is extremely bad. A debt is a promise to give a certain sum of money, in a certain amount of time, under certain conditions. It is a contract that is ultimately enforceable through the threat of force. The problem is that through a genuinely perverse historical alchemy, we’ve come to see such acts of violence as the very essence of morality.

    • As you may know, the National Defense Authorization Bill 2012 has passed, and has some possibly tremendous impacts on civilian rights in the U.S. But did you know that it could also chill internet speech and target movements like Occupy Wall Street via cyberspace surveillance? Says Kurt Nimmo of the declaration by the Pentagon of the internet as a “domain of war” (featured in the article linked to above):

It will work with the Pentagon to militarily neutralize the threat posed by activists and the alternative media.

    • Support Bradley Manning! Also, I posted this on Facecrack, but I’m going to repost my comments on Wikileaks and information-exposing tech here:

I love the work Wikileaks has done, but the truth is Wikileaks has been over for a year now. Wikileaks did what no one else could accomplish, but the tools for journalists and whistleblowers have evolved, and we are now past the centralization of this information-exposing movement, moving into broader, decentralized tools such as OpenLeaks and other things that put the power into the hands of the whistleblowers and journalists, with no necessity for a middleman such as Wikileaks. Wikileaks was the advent of this movement and deserves praise as such, but it was simply a snapshot, a transitional form in the evolution of this movement. Thank you Wikileaks! And hello, future information technologies!

The Stuff: Martyrs, Heartbeats, Privilege Doodz and Punks

    The Stuff!

    • The Kentucky school superintendent Ricky Line, who opposed the teaching of evolution in schools, has had his letter to the Kentucky Board of Education leaked and published internet-wide. This guy has a major martyr-complex. The letter, in which he compares himself to a college dean who was shot in the Philippines when the U.S. entered World War II, is downright hilarious. (Hat-tip to Pharyngula.)
    • I almost thought this was something from WorldnutDaily and their birther comrades. Anything is possible with those guys. But then at the end, the reveal. I won’t spoil it.
    • The prescription of a rich white dood to solve institutionalized economic racism: poor Black kids should just stop being so lazy and use the internet, already! And unsurprisingly, the response is “what is this I don’t even“.
    • In Banda Aceh, a provincial capitol in Indonesia, sharia cops have arrested over 60 punk kids and are marching them off to “re-education” camps. This is exactly what bothers me about the arrogance of enforcing social norms. I want to see if the fucking pigs that did this would appreciate having their personal space violated, being dehumanized, being told that who you are is shit. (The Facecrack group trying to raise awareness and petition signatures for the Banda Aceh punks is here.)
    • The Stuff is a bit short today so I’ll leave you with this:

The Stuff: Self-Centered Vaxxers, Mariah Carey Scary, Cops ATL

Selfish Assholes who don't give a shit if children who can't access medicine die from measles

Who cares about other people's health? Not Melanie, she's carefree!

    • I will never understand how anti-vaxxer loons got to be so fucking selfish.
    • The people swallowing the anti-vaxxer pill tend to be into the so-called naturalist, homeopathic and Wicca stuff too. I remember being 18 and really, really wanting to believe that Wicca crap. I never could convince myself. It’s schlock. If nature had anything to do with mushy naturalism then careful observation of the world we live in would be their highest priority, not their mortal enemy.
    • Got an email alert from the onemillionmoms.com urging me to sign a petition against the new Jenny Craig commercial featuring Mariah Carey, which (tastefully, IMO) depicts her struggling and finally emerging from a sort of cloth cocoon. The reason onemillionmoms.com is against it? Hilarious: “There is too much skin shown for most audiences. It seems to be portraying a female body coming out of a cocoon, simulating perhaps a new body being formed…This ad is clever in that it is graphic without actually showing anything. This way it could be aired.” Methinks they misunderstand the word, “graphic.”

The Stuff: Humble Writes, Occupy Makes Wins, NAACP Professionalizes Struggle

    The Stimulator

Ninjas? WTF do you mean ninjas?!!

    • On a much more depressing note, cops in Australia rip a woman’s tent-costume off of her body, stripping her to her underwear in broad daylight. When they’re done, they just walk away.
    • Fox News’ Eric Bolling wants to round up undocumented school kids and deport them.
    • Occupy Chapel Hill has a measure of victory, sparking action and energy in the movement.
    • Prominent GOP pollster Frank Lutz is “scared to death of Occupy” and advises Republicans on how to control public opinion of the Occupy Movement.
    • A friend of mine recently unsubscribed from the NAACP mail alerts. They sent him a form requesting that he state the reason why he unsubscribed. I’d like to share what he wrote here about the NAACP and liberal/Official Left(TM) groups, because it is salient and to-the-point in regards to professional Leftists who make a career out of struggle:

“The NAACP [insert liberal group here] is a bunch of ineffective liberals that think there’s hope in the system and exist in the cesspool of “democratic” plurality. You professionalize social struggle and make it a job that is separate from daily life, that only exists within the sphere of the Official Left’s special interests. You are completely irrelevant in the face of the growing awareness that the system is entirely corrupt and needs to be gotten rid of completely and replaced by a horizontalist, all-inclusive process of cooperating human beings. Groups like you will only get in the way of people realizing their potential by making yourselves the self-proclaimed leaders of a movement you can’t figure out and are threatened by since your way of doing things, your dogmatic adherence to nonviolence, your belief in electoral politics and isolation from the reality of daily life for most people makes your group completely irrelevant and detrimental. My friends, you are as much a part of the problem, along with the rest of the Official Left in the world, as the capitalists and politicians are. Quit your jobs, or you will remain the careerist pigs that will be washed away by the tide of historical necessity.”

    • And if you’re still with me after that, I’m going to randomly plug submedia.tv which features the excellent show, It’s the End of the World as We Know It and I Feel Fine. Check it out. Don’t be frightened. Or do be frightened.
